Sport for Television, working with L’Evenement Limited, coordinated the Grand Depart of the Tour de France from Dublin via 3 stages in Ireland. This involved closure of the city centre for a prologue timetrial, a Dunblin-Dublin stage through the Dublin mountains and a stage from Enniscorthy in County Wicklow to Cork.

The event involved 7,000 of the 12,000 garda in the country and shipping of nine thousand lane metres of tour vehicles back to France.
