Sport for Television were responsible for the hugely popular visit of the Tour de France to England, taking in Dover, Canterbury, Brighton and Portsmouth. Three million people lined the roadside.

The work involved with this included negotiations with the Tour de France organisers, 12 local authorities plus emergency services, radio frequency facilities and air traffic control. The event required a special Act of Parliament and was attended by 1,200 travelling media.
